After completing a Vietnam tour in 1970, Steven Erickson found himself in familiar terrain, having been born in Waterford. Embracing a new chapter, the embarked on a career with Stanislaus County, contributing their expertise as a civil engineer. Post-retirement, fueled by a passion for exploration, his traversed the expanse of the United States.

The turning point in Steve’s journey occurred in the vibrant city of Miami, FL, where a chance encounter led him to a vegan farmers market. It was here, amidst the lively stalls, that Steve crossed paths with a soap maker who generously shared the enchanting art of soap crafting. In 2007, inspired and motivated, he laid the foundation for Inland Fog, an homage to the Central Valley's distinctive winter mist.

Inland Fog stands as a testament to Steve’s dedication to handcrafting exceptional vegan bath and body products. Each creation is meticulously curated with care, reflecting not only his skill but also a touch of Best Intentions—curating “good products for good people.”

Julia Washington is an artist, writer, and podcast host. In 2014 she was one of 14 writers for the inaugural community novel facilitated by the Stanislaus County Library. In 2017 her story 'That Face' was published in the Penman Review. She is the creator and host of Pop Culture Makes Me Jealous and Jelly Pops Book Club podcasts. Her hand-painted greeting card designs are not your mother’s Hallmark cards. Her hand-poured candles are literary-themed and come with a book recommendation. With an A.A. in Fine Arts, a background in professional framing, and a love for plants, Jen’s creativity is rooted in a diverse journey shaped by her mother’s influence—a multi-talented artist herself. Jen draws on this rich heritage, embracing a “jack-of-all-trades” approach that’s seen her master mediums like watercolors, Prismacolor pencils, and copper enamel jewelry.

Her work often involves repurposing thrift store finds, transforming ordinary objects into one-of-a-kind artworks. Among customer favorites are her hand-painted wooden dishes featuring flowers and hearts, as well as Dia de Los Muertos-themed statuary and masks. Jen also has a passion for collecting and reinventing boxes, each one becoming a unique creation.

Hayleé creates beeswax candles, natural plant dyes, and herbal remedies, allowing her to maintain an ancestral connection to the land and engage in a journey of growth, learning, and healing. She takes pride in sourcing beeswax and materials from other small businesses, supporting local sustainability. As a beginner beekeeper, Hayleé is gaining insights into the fascinating life of bees and hopes to one day use her own beeswax in her products. She spent over two decades working in an alterations shop, refining her craft, and now brings that same dedication to her handmade line of products.

Currently, her most popular items are her handmade ornaments, inspired by traditional pan dulce and Latin designs. Katie Harris, the artisan behind Sissybar Co., began her soap-making journey in 2020, inspired by a newfound passion for creating high-quality, natural products. With a commitment to simplicity and purity, Katie crafts each soap bar using a blend of olive oil, coconut, and organic shea butter, infused with herbs and clays, and fragranced without hormone-disrupting additives, parabens, or phthalates.

Encouraged by the support of his family, Steve made the decision to turn his woodworking hobby into a business.

Belinda’s main material is sterling silver, and she enjoys designing unique and playful pieces, from earrings and chain mail to cuffs and rings. Her creative process involves plenty of background sports commentary on TV and a little bit of math assistance from her supportive husband (who, thankfully, is much better with numbers than she is).

In 1991, he settled in Modesto, where he shared his passion for art through teaching high school students. Following retirement, he continued to inspire others by teaching part-time at MJC for six years, all while creating ceramics at home and raising two daughters.

Randy’s work is a blend of functional and decorative ceramics and sculptural pieces, each uniquely inspired by his life experiences and a deep reverence for nature. What started as a hobby during a rough time evolved into a daily source of anticipation, even after returning to his full-time job.

Ricardo taught himself the intricacies of operating both the CNC machine and the laser machine, reveling in the process of transforming an idea in his mind into a tangible creation on the laser. Whether it's his original design or someone else's, Ricardo takes pride in the meticulous process and quality of the pieces he produces. The business's name is a tribute to Ricardo’s father and his place of origin.
