FLOR DE TOLOACHE & GINA CHAVEZ

  • Gallo Center for The Arts 1000 I Street Modesto, CA, 95354 United States (map)

Latin Grammy-winning, all-female group Flor de Toloache mixes tradition and innovation, breaking boundaries with their edgy, versatile, and fresh take on traditional Latin American music. This talented New York ensemble casts a spell over their audiences with soaring vocals and physical elegance. Their diverse ethnicities and musical backgrounds transcend culture and gender by forging new paths. The group has graced international stages from Mexico to Japan and has extensively toured the USA, Europe and Latin America. With a total of five studio albums to date, Flor de Toloache recently released Motherflower, described by the artists as a mosaic of genres inspired by mariachi, "with a feminist charge felt like never before."

In an industry that looks to define artists, Gina Chavez refuses to fit into a box. From her Mexican and Swiss-German raices, to her life as a queer, married Catholic in Texas, to her bilingual music, the Latin Grammy nominee is unapologetically herself. And people are taking notice. Gina is a 13-time Austin Music Award winner, including 2019 Best Female Vocals, 2015 Austin Musician of the Year and seven-time winner for Best Latin. Her first all-Spanish language album, La Que Manda, was nominated for a 2020 Latin Grammy in Best Pop/Rock, making her the third Latine born in the continental U.S. to ever be nominated in the category.
