Vulgar, egotistic junkman Harry Brock has come to a swanky hotel in Washington to make crooked deals with government big-wigs. Accompanying him is the charming but dumb ex-chorus girl Billie, whose lack of social graces embarrasses even Harry. Harry hires young, idealistic reporter Paul Verrall to educate Billie and make her more presentable. Romance ensues, as does Billie's realization that Harry is a crook who has made her a tool in his schemes to defraud the public.  As Billie prepares to leave Harry, she helps Paul get hold of incriminating documents of Harry's which will result in scandal and disaster. Written by Garson Kanin, this comedy-drama became a celebrated film starring Judy Holliday and William Holden.
