Emily Ding is a muralist who draws inspiration from flora, fauna, & human temperament. Her large-scale work is characterized by expressive animals & figures, which come to life through bold color gradients & a fluid, painterly style. Resonating deeply with the phenomena of the natural world, she aims to communicate emotions and experiences through storytelling with wild creatures and people.

It is rare for a mural to be named by its artist, but this one is a rare treat in that it has a title and a backstory: This visual concept, called “Check On Your Loved Ones,” was developed during Covid when many people felt isolated and alone in a sea of change, death, and decay of varied forms. While some thrived on changes like working from home and simplifying their family lives, others were utterly alone and not faring as well. In this mural, some field flowers are alive and pointing to the sun, while others are not. A field mouse navigates the terrain alone, scurring from flower to flower to check on its loved ones.
